Bio

Gary Holton is Professor of Linguistics at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa, where he also serves as co-director of the Biocultural Initiative of the Pacific. His research focuses on the documentation of endangered languages and the relationships between language, culture, and environment. He is currently principal investigator for the Alaska Native Place Names project, which aims to create a comprehensive record of the Indigenous place names of Alaska, across all of Alaska's Native languages.
