As a cultural anthropologist, I've been researching people, culture, and place in Nunavut since the early 1990s. I also have research experience studying human-environment relations of rural residents in southwest Alaska. I'm particularly interested in how indigenous peoples and their settler neighbors balance the competing demands of tradition and modernity.
