Paty Matrai is a biological oceanographer, specializing in air-sea interactions with emphasis in biological processes, especially in the Arctic Ocean, the cycling of biogenic gases, formation of primary organic aerosols, and the interdisciplinary role of the polar oceans in climate (see website). She has worked for many years in field expeditions to the Arctic, Antarctic, and temperate regions, with a sprinkling of tropical cruises. Current emphasis is in the deployment of ice-tethered chemical observing buoys (O-Buoys for atmospheric O3, BrO, CO2, and meteorological measurements, to be expanded to seawater chemical parameters) and Arctic floats equipped with physical and bio-optical sensors.
