I started as a glaciologist in 1976 after graduating from Brown University and hiring on as a surveyor with the U Maine research project on the Ross Ice Shelf. After completing graduate school at U Maine and Princeton, I signed on as a faculty at U of Chicago where I have been ever since. I currently am the president of the International Glaciological Society.
