Bio

I have conducting research in the Arctic since 1974. Field work has included numerous ship expeditions, the use of aircraft and snowmobiles. My interests have been primarily to look at freshwater and organic carbon pathways in the Arctic Ocean and associated seas (Beaufort, Canadian Archipelago, Hudson Bay, Baffin Bay). I have also participated in numerous reviews, especially within the Arctic Monitoring and Assessment Programme (AMAP), which have been focused on contaminant cycles, climate change and Arctic Ocean acidification. The work has been published in ~250 peer-reviewed journal articles and numerous reports (list is publicly available in Google Scholar (search RW Macdonald).

Current Research

Organic carbon cycling, freshwater processes, contaminants and the effects of climate change on these processes. Work is conducted in the Arctic Ocean with special emphasis on the Beaufort Sea and Hudson Bay.
