The Alaska Climate Adaptation Science Center (AK CASC) at the University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) invites applications for a postdoctoral fellow in climate science. This full-time, two-year position will be located in Fairbanks, Alaska.
The successful candidate will play a role in ensuring that climate science contributes to Alaskans efforts to adapt to the impacts of climate change. AK CASK seeks an enthusiastic applicant with a PhD in the social sciences, who is interested in doing meaningful work in a collaborative environment. The postdoctoral fellow will have some latitude to develop research questions independently based on their expertise, but potential projects include the investigation of:
- Organizational approaches to science communication;
- Boundary spanners and actionable science;
- Research-practice partnerships; and/or
- Relationships between team composition, budgetary inputs, and actionable science outcomes.
Minimum qualifications include:
- PhD in a relevant discipline (communication, anthropology, sociology, human geography, psychology, political science, science and technology studies, public policy and planning, environmental studies, evaluation science, etc.);
- Demonstrated experience with social science research methods (e.g., interview, survey, comparative case studies, participant action, community-based research); and
- Experience conducting research related to climate change impacts and/or adaptation is preferred.
