The Arctic Submarine Laboratory (ASL) invites groups to conduct fieldwork during the Navy’s biennial Ice Exercise (ICEX). This event will take place from February – March, 2024 on multiyear sea ice off the coast of Prudhoe Bay, Alaska.
Common fieldwork topics include deploying sensors and buoys, under-ice acoustics, testing of developed equipment, CTD collection, and sea ice fracture detection. If selected, participants will be required to transport themselves and their equipment to Prudhoe Bay, Alaska, outfit themselves with appropriate Arctic clothing, and travel to San Diego, California for event planning and training.
The Arctic Submarine Laboratory will provide food, lodging in heated tents with cots, transportation between Prudhoe Bay and the ice camp, and some field project support (e.g., polar bear guard, snow machine and helicopter transport, use of ice augers and other tools, and fishing tents with small heaters to work out of).
Deadline to request to participate: 28 October 2022
