The Danish Meteorological Institute (DMI) invites applications for a climate scientist in regional climate modelling, with focus on the polar regions and the climate affecting the Greenland and Antarctic ice sheets. This permanent, full-time position will be located in Copenhagen, Denmark.
The role is focused on the development and analysis of the HARMONIE-Climate regional model (HCLIM), designing and executing model experiments, as well as developing the model code in collaboration with colleagues at DMI and as part of the international consortium around HCLIM.
The successful candidate will work with analyses of the modelled climate, lead and contribute to scientific papers, and participate in developing new grant applications with the group and external collaborators. There will be flexibility in deciding the weight between working with the model itself and running and analyzing experiments. The incumbent will also have the opportunity to take part in DMI's non-polar climate activities such as modelling tasks focusing on the Danish or European climate.
Qualifications include:
- PhD degree in climate science, meteorology, or related fields (e.g., physics or engineering);
- Experience with climate modelling, preferably regional atmospheric modelling, numerical weather prediction, or Earth system modelling;
- Advanced programming skills (Linux/Unix and scripting languages, e.g., Python, Fortran, etc.), and experience with HPC systems;
- Research experience working with polar (Arctic and/or Antarctic) climate is an advantage; and
- Good communication skills in oral and written English.
