The Geophysical Institute at the University of Alaska Fairbanks invites applications for a postdoctoral researcher in sea ice geophysics. This fixed-term position will be funded for two and a half years, and will be located in Fairbanks, Alaska.
The successful candidate will be part of a team of scientists and engineers developing an airborne electromagnetic (AEM) sensor equipped with a snow radar for measuring sea ice and snow thickness from Unmanned Aerial Systems.
A PhD in electrical engineering, remote sensing, geophysics, or a related field, and two years of research in a relevant scientific field is required.
Desired skills include:
- Knowledge of and experience in electromagnetic systems and signal processing,
- Knowledge and ability to work with embedded systems design and applied geophysics,
- Ability to publish in peer reviewed journals and ability to conduct multidisciplinary research,
- Ability to pay close attention to detail and work in an organized manner,
- Ability to follow instructions and work without close supervision,
- Sufficient relevant experience to contribute significantly to projects,
- Experience with the use of computers and other appropriate equipment to conduct the research proposed, and
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
