The Institute of Geography and Regional Science at Graz University invites applications for a Senior Scientist in glaciology and/or climatology. This full-time position, with fixed-term employment for the period of six years with an objective agreement, will be located in Graz, Austria.
Duties include:
- Independent research and publication activities in the field of climatology, hydrology, and/or glaciology with a focus on mountain or polar regions;
- Coordination of international research at Sermilik Station (Greenland) in cooperation with Danish partners;
- Contributing to the acquisition and management of third-party funded projects;
- Teaching in the field of climatology, hydrology, and/or glaciology;
- Supervision of academic theses in the field of climatology, hydrology, and glaciology;
- Personal involvement in the university self-administration; and
- Collaboration in the research group CC-MoRe - Climate Change in Mountain Regions, in the University’s Field of Excellence "Climate Change Graz," as well as the Austrian Polar Research Institute (APRI).
Qualifications include:
- Doctoral degree (PhD) with focus on mountain climatology or glaciology;
- Successful research track in mountain or polar climatology, hydrology, and/or glaciology, and interest in working at the cryosphere-climate interface;
- Internationally relevant publication and lecturing record;
- Proven experience in self-responsible field work in high mountains or polar regions;
- Experience in the acquisition and implementation of third-party funded projects;
- Teaching experience in climatology, hydrology, and/or glaciology;
- Strong command of English (knowledge of the German language is not required, but the successful candidate must demonstrate a willingness to become proficient in the language at the level of teaching in the Bachelor’s of Science program);
- Ability to work independently and self-reliantly in remote areas (high mountains, Arctic);
- Strong organizational skills;
- Communication and team skills;
- Desire to teach and supervise students; and
- Several years of post-doc experience is desirable.
