The Department of Bioscience at Aarhus University invites applications for a postdoctoral position in Arctic microbial oil degradation in Greenland’s marine environment. This two-year position will be located in Aarhus, Denmark.
The successful applicant will combine field and laboratory experiments based on in situ field- and laboratory-deployed oil-coated adsorbents to investigate the composition, activity, and biodegradation potential of Arctic oil-degrading microbial communities; environmental controls on oil biodegradation; and the role of oil-degrading biofilms observed on oil droplets.
Requirements for this position include a PhD in microbiology, environmental sciences/engineering, or a related field; the ability to join research expeditions in the Arctic; desire to develop new ideas; a willingness to collaborate; and strong written and spoken English.
Experience in the following areas will be considered as an advantage:
- Organizing and conducting fieldwork or other relevant field experiences,
- Handling laboratory reactor/microcosm setups,
- Modern molecular techniques and bioinformatics,
- Chemical analysis,
- Techniques relevant to investigate oil-degrading biofilms,
- Publishing in peer-reviewed journals, and
- Developing and writing project proposals.
