The Tromsø University Museum at UiT – The Arctic University of Norway invites applications for a professor position in zoology/marine invertebrates. This permanent, full-time position will be located in Tromsø, Norway.
The successful candidate is expected to carry out research in any taxonomic group of marine invertebrates. Relevant groups are those living along the coast of northern Norway and the Arctic. Applicants may focus on one or more of the fields of biosystematics, biogeography, biodiversity, ecology, and molecular genetics. The appointee is expected to participate in museum outreach activities; collaborate within the institution, nationally, and internationally; and be active in applying for external research funding.
Applicants should have a good command of one of the Scandinavian languages and English. Applicants who do not have a good command of a Scandinavian language must be willing to learn Norwegian within a reasonable time period.
Duties of this position include research and research-based activities, collection management, dissemination, and administration. This position will include responsibility for the marine invertebrate collections, both within and outside of the appointee’s research field, and curation of other collections within zoology. Teaching and supervision of Master and PhD students is encouraged.
Research experience within biosystematics/taxonomy of a relevant taxonomic group is required. Experience in museum work, especially scientific collections, is an asset. A successful record of applying for external funding and/or a high potential for external funding will be an advantage.
