The Arctic Centre is an international multidisciplinary institute
affiliated with the University of Lapland in Rovaniemi, Finland. Its
Research Strategy is to increase the understanding of the cultural and
natural processes in the Circumpolar North, including social and
environmental problems. The research at the Centre also deals with the
multi-dimensional instruments of environmental management that may solve
these problems. The Centre has four departments: the Research Department,
the Science Centre, the Information Service and the Northern Institute for
Environmental and Minority Law. The Centre currently has a staff of 60.
The Arctic Centre is looking for someone, as of January 1, 2000, to fill
the position of
DIRECTOR
The Director is expected to have a doctorate, and be experienced and
committed to the sciences related to Arctic issues. Experience in
university administration or administering a research institution,
organisational and negotiating skills as well as a responsive attitude to
the needs of the staff are of primary importance. The Director should meet
the multidisciplinary needs of the Centre. An extensive network of
international connections is considered an asset.
The successful applicant should also have experience in attracting funds
from national or international sources. Broad language skills are
considered desirable.
The salary is negotiable. The appointment includes the title of Professor.
