CONFERENCE THEME
The theme for the 50th Arctic Science Conference is "Science in the North:
50 Years of Change." Since the first conference in 1950, there have been
major advances across all fields of science. This conference will provide a
perspective on fifty years of scientific achievement in the North, as well
as a forum for presentation of current scientific findings. This 50th
anniversary year of the Arctic Science Conference will take place at its
original site in Alaska.
Technical sessions will be broadly organized under the Life Sciences,
Physical Sciences, and Social Sciences; many sessions will be
interdisciplinary in nature.
LOCATION
Denali National Park and Preserve, Alaska - is located along Alaska Route
3, the George Parks Highway, approximately 125 miles south of Fairbanks and
240 miles north of Anchorage.

SPECIAL DEDICATION CEREMONY FOR PERMAFROST RESERVE
Saturday, 18 September 1999 - 2:00 p.m.
Dedication of the Troy L. Pewe Climatic Change Permafrost Reserve will be
located at Gold Hill, 2 miles west of the University of Alaska Fairbanks
campus.
The permafrost reserve is administered by the Geophysical Institute,
University of Alaska Fairbanks.
