St. Elias region, contact David Hik at 780-492-9878, dhik [at] ualberta.ca. For more

Dear Arctic Researcher,
We are writing to obtain your assistance in recovering and cataloguing
biophysical and meterological data from the St. Elias Region of Yukon,
northwestern British Columbia Canada, and Alaska. The two main
components of this effort are to build a metadata catalogue of available
information, and to organize datasets for subsequent synthesis and analysis.
This project is funded in part by the federal Climate Change Action Fund
(CCAF) and is part of a larger project to study environmental and climate
change in the southwest Yukon. A project website is presently under
development at http://www.biology.ualberta.ca/step
There are three types of data we are looking for specifically. The first
are 'orphaned' or forgotten datasets that may or may not be digital, but
that could be recovered and catalogued. The second type of data are
monitoring or 'control' data from experimental studies conducted by various
research groups or organizations (i.e. National Parks) - much of this may
be readily accessible. Finally, we also intend to bring together long-term
monitoring data from government agencies (i.e. met records, hydrological
data), that should already be in good shape.
Your assistance with this project, either by providing information directly
or identifying other leads is most appreciated.
Best wishes,
David Hik
