MARINE MAMMAL BIOLOGIST

This is a challenging opportunity for a self-starting, motivated,
individual, with strong analytical and communication skills. Population
assessment and subsistence hunting are the primary issues. Job duties
include: Develop biological study proposals, survey designs, and
scopes-of-work; Conduct population and harvest surveys, biological sampling
and population modeling; Coordinate walrus program activities within the
Alaska Region as well as with other Federal and State agencies, Alaska
Native organizations, foreign governments, and private organizations;
Identify and recommend management strategies, approaches and priorities;
Budget planning, projections, formulation, needs and allocation; Develop
funding initiatives.
We are looking for someone with a strong background in population biology
and statistical theory. Qualified candidates must be able to statistically
analyze biological data, prepare clear, concise technical and
administrative reports and transform findings of research and management
studies into practical applications for managing marine mammal populations.
Knowledge of the habitat, taxonomy, status, ecology and conservation of
fauna with emphasis on marine mammals is required.
