will become a team member of the Arctic System Science (ARCSS) Data

JOB OVERVIEW
The Data Coordinator will become a team member of the Arctic System
Science (ARCSS) Data Coordination Center (ADCC), which is a National
Science Foundation (NSF) funded five-year grant. The individual will
provide support for and work with ARCSS scientists, web architects,
writers, programmers, User Services, Operations, and projects. The
individual's priority will be to maintain the integrity of a working Web
server. The candidate must also have and be willing to maintain currency
in the field of information technology. This is a full-time position
reporting to the ARCSS Data Manager.
DUTIES
The Data Coordinator, under guidance of the Data Manager, is responsible
for the efficient operation of the ARCSS data archive, ensuring both
timely data transfers to the archive and easy access to the data by a
variety of users. The Data Coordinator is responsible for the following:
- Develop and maintain the ADCC web site through innovative
applications of IT - Construct and maintain the ARCSS archive
- Monitor data transfer and accession procedures to the ARCSS archive
- Work directly with investigators on data transfers to the archive
- Facilitate ARCSS data and information dissemination
- Develop and write HTML documents as required
- Assess custom WWW applications for System Sciences and Social
Sciences - Assist in troubleshooting problems related to client/server
interfaces - Provide technical support to users and applications developers
- Assist in the administration of the web site configuration
- Generate scripts that may be required to administer the Web site
- Configure WWW browser
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent, preferably in information technology
or a related scientific field
- Experience in the development and maintenance of Web sites
- Knowledge of APACHE Web servers
- Skill in configuring access control to/from local web services
- Skill in changing priorities in a dynamic environment
- Self-starter with the ability to work as part of a team
HIGHLY DESIRABLE
- Master's degree in IT or a related system science or social science
- Experience in using JavaScript, HTML, Perl, and CGIs is a plus
- Familiarity with applets
