POSITION
Assistant Professor of Biological Sciences in the area of Physiological
Ecology

The Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Alaska
Anchorage seeks an assistant professor with strengths in physiological
ecology and molecular techniques. We are particularly interested in
candidates who use molecular approaches to investigate physiological
adaptations of animals to extreme and highly seasonal environments, such
as those at high latitudes. We will also consider applicants who use
laboratory and field techniques to investigate the complex processes
that shape animal evolutionary and ecological physiology. Candidates
whose research areas complement those of existing programs are strongly
encouraged to apply. Applicants should have postdoctoral experience, a
strong publication record and demonstrated ability to work
collaboratively. The ability to obtain extramural research funding in
the area of animal physiology, and a strong interest in mentoring
graduate and undergraduate students is required. Opportunities for
collaboration with other research groups exist at the University of
Alaska campuses, and with the statewide research community.
QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates must have the following:
- Ph.D. in biology or relevant scientific field;
- evidence of teaching experience in a relevant area;
- post-doctoral research experience;
- at least one publication as first author in a refereed journal;
- ability to obtain extramural research funding;
- ability to establish an independent research program.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Primary teaching responsibilities include human anatomy and physiology,
and one upper division and/or graduate classes in area of expertise per
year.
