American Quaternary Association (AMQUA)
17th Biennial Meeting
University of Alaska Anchorage
8-11 August 2002
THE AMERICAN QUATERNARY ASSOCIATION (AMQUA) will host its
17th biennial meeting at the University of Alaska Anchorage,
8-11 August 2002. The theme of the conference is the peopling of
the Americas in its paleoenvironmental setting ("Climate Change
and Human Migration in the North Pacific Basin"). Program topics
include Late Quaternary Paleoecology and the Peopling of the Pacific
Coast. Five field trips are planned, including visits to Paleo-Indian
sites in interior Alaska and Eskimo sites in northwest Alaska, and
examination of soil and tephra sequences, glacial deposits, and
modern glacial dynamics in southcentral Alaska. The AMQUA meetings
will be preceded by the Inuit Studies Conference, and a special
Beringia Working Group (INQUA) symposium on Archaeology of the
Russian Far East. Additional activities are planned at the Alaska
Native Heritage Center. Members and non-members welcome.
