ARCSS All-Hands Workshop 20-23 February 2002
Bell Harbor International Conference Center
Seattle, Washington, USA

Workshop Focus

The ARCSS All-Hands Workshop will focus on the future directions of
Arctic System Science. The purpose of the workshop is to assess the
state of the art in research on global change, environmental impacts,
and biocomplexity, emphasizing arctic and global aspects, to identify
gaps in knowledge and areas for research integration, and to discuss
vital new research initiatives. Working group discussions will be
centered around the following broad research areas:

  • Arctic Nearshore and Coastal Processes

  • Modes of Natural Variability in the Arctic System

  • The Hydrologic Cycle and its Role in Arctic and Global Environmental
    Change

  • The ARCSS Themes: Key Uncertainties and Readiness for Research

(For more information on the ARCSS research themes, see the ARCSS
science plan, "Toward Prediction of the Arctic System", available from
ARCUS or at http://www.arcus.org/ARCSS_Plan/ARCSS_Plan.html.)

The ARCSS Committee invites everyone associated with ARCSS research to
participate. We particularly encourage students and international
colleagues to attend, as well as anyone interested in the future of the
ARCSS Program and arctic system science. We expect about 300
participants.

For additional information about the National Science Foundation Arctic
System Science (ARCSS) Program, see the NSF web site at

Director Michael Ledbetter at mledbett [at] nsf.gov.

REGISTRATION The Arctic Research Consortium of the U.S. (ARCUS) will
handle meeting arrangements. If you expect to attend the All-Hands
workshop, please REGISTER on the ARCUS web site by 25 January 2002:
