OCEANOGRAPHIC EQUIPMENT MANAGER REQUIRED

DESCRIPTION
Responsible for equipment used in oceanographic research, encompassing
the purchase, maintenance, calibration, basic operation, storage, and
inventory.
Specifically the post involves working with professors and students to
select, modify, or adapt equipment. Other duties include helping to
install oceanographic equipment onboard ships and participating in
activities at sea, such as sampling and aiding in the installation of
moored oceanographic equipment.
Day-to-day responsibilities include organizing the lending and renting
of scientific equipment, keeping up-to-date records of equipment
purchases and condition, and coordinating the conception, crafting, and
installation of specialized instruments.
REQUIREMENTS
- Suitable candidates will have a BSc or a MSc. (preferable) in biology
or a relevant field.
- Solid knowledge in mechanics and electronics.
- Excellent troubleshooting, communication, and organizational skills
are a requirement.
- Bilingual (French/English)
- Basic abilities in word processing, e-mail, Internet, and data
processing.
- Must be mobile (see below*).
- Two (2) years relevant experience.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Twelve (12) month (renewable) contract.
- Position based in Quebec City (Université Laval).
- *Fieldwork at sea and other travel will range from a few days to a
few months.
- Irregular hours during the field season (May to October).
- Holidays must be taken outside of the field season.
Salary: up to $52,000 (Can.) depending on experience
