3rd International Conference on Contaminants in Freezing Ground
Hobart, Tasmania

The Contaminants in Freezing Ground conference series, and the
inter-sessional 'virtual conference', aim to bridge the gap between
scientific research and industry. Participants will have a scientific or
practical interest in contaminants in cold climates, including
scientists, engineers, remote sensing specialists, hydrologists, and
environmental managers, who will come from organisations such as
universities, corporations, government, military, and the environmental
consulting industry.

In the context of Arctic, Antarctic, and high-alpine areas, the topics
of the meeting will focus on:

  • Fundamental properties of contaminated soils (physical, chemical, and
    biological)
  • Processes of contaminant transport and dispersal (especially
    hydrology)
  • Contaminated sites assessment procedures
  • Legal, policy, and compliance issues
  • Environmental impacts (especially the impact of contaminants on
    biota)
  • Application of remote sensing in assessment, monitoring, and
    remediation of contaminated sites
  • Strategies for contaminated site management including new treatment
    techniques and remediation

Registration for the 3rd International Conference on Contaminants in
Freezing Ground is now available online. Please log in to:
http://www.aad.gov.au/science/cfg3/registration.asp

The price for early registration is $450 (Australian) which includes:
welcome reception, conference attendance, a copy of the published
extended abstracts, Government House reception, tea, coffee, and buffet
lunch every day, Derwent River cruise, and Dinner at the Moorilla Winery
(Please note that there might be minor changes to this).

The low cost of registration has been made possible by generous
sponsorship of the conference by the Australian Antarctic Division,
IntelEco, CSIRO, Government of Canada (Aboriginal and Circumpolar
Division), Antarctic Adventure, Sinclair Knight Mertz, and Antarctic CRC
(Law Policy and International Relations sub-program). More details about
our sponsors will be available on the web soon.

Several other large Environmental Consulting companies have taken a keen
interest in the conference as well, and will either send representatives
or have indicated that they intend to sponsor the meeting and have
exhibits.

There have been 4900 visits to our web site so far, so there has
certainly been considerable interest in the meeting.

There are currently 20 or so presentation summaries on the web,
involving people from Canada, New Zealand, USA, Australia, Russia,
Estonia, Norway and Finland, UK, France, and Japan, and the web will be
updated shortly with an overview of further contributions.

If you wish to present at the meeting, please send details of what you
want to present as soon as possible. You can send abstracts or
presentation summaries without formal registration if you are currently
uncertain of your exact travel plans.

Also, Polar Record and Cold Regions Science and Technology have again
agreed to peer review and publish the best formal papers from the
meeting. If authors could aim to have a draft of their papers ready for
the meeting, we will have a chance to internally review them before they
are finally submitted.
