IMPORTANT SCIENCE EVENT IN HOMER, ALASKA, THIS WEEK!

KACHEMAK BAY SCIENCE CONFERENCE

Tides of Change: Patterns and Significance of Environmental Change
in Kachemak Bay and the North Pacific Ocean
Homer, Alaska

12-14 April 2002

Everyone is invited to attend the Kachemak Bay Science Conference to be
held at Homer High School on Friday, 12 April from 6:00 - 9:30 pm and
Saturday, 13 April from 8:30 am - 5:30 pm. Researchers from California
to Alaska will present talks and posters on issues related to marine,
freshwater, and terrestrial science and environmental variation in
Kachemak Bay and the North Pacific Ocean.

Dr. Robert Paine, Professor Emeritus of Zoology from the University of
Washington, will be the Keynote Speaker on Friday, discussing causes of
change in nearshore environments. Dr. Tim Barnett, Physical
Oceanographer from Scripps Institution of Oceanography, will be the
Endnote Speaker Saturday afternoon, discussing potential effects of
global climate change on Kachemak Bay.

A Native Perspective Session will be offered Saturday afternoon and a
poster session and conference social will be held at Lands End
Restaurant from 6:00 - 8:00 pm.

Registration costs $15, with discounts for seniors and college students
and free admission for those under 18. There is no registration fee for
attending Saturday afternoon's presentations. College credit is offered
to teachers for participation in this event. A post-Conference luncheon
will be offered at the Rookery Restaurant on Kachemak Bay's south side
on Sunday, 14 April.
