ABSTRACT DEADLINE IS: 14 December 2002

Seventh Conference on Polar Meteorology and Oceanography and
Joint Symposium on High-Latitude Climate Variations
Hyannis, Massachusetts

12-16 May 2003

In addition to topics related to polar meteorology and oceanography, the
conference will feature a Joint Symposium on High-Latitude Climate
Variations organized by the AMS committee on Polar Meteorology and
Oceanography together with the committee on Climate Variations.

Further information about the conference logistics and registration will
be available from the AMS web site at: http://www.ametsoc.org/ams

The Joint Symposium on High-Latitude Climate Variations will be
organized according to temporal and spatial scales, beginning with
sessions on large-scale, multi-decadal and longer variations,
progressing to studies of shorter and smaller-scale phenomena. We
welcome papers related to all aspects of high-latitude climate processes
and particularly solicit presentations and posters on high-latitude
paleoclimate, interactions between high and low latitudes, large-scale
circulation modes, interactions and feedbacks among oceanic and
atmospheric variables, low- versus high-latitude climate forcing, and
observations of and explanations for recent and/or abrupt change. The
format will include invited speakers, oral presentations, and posters.
Posters will be displayed prominently all week with at least two
dedicated viewing sessions.

CALL FOR PAPERS
In addition to the Joint Symposium, we welcome papers on other topics
related to polar meteorology and oceanography, including modeling and
observing cloud-radiation interactions and atmosphere/sea-ice/ocean
exchanges. Results from recent field programs are also welcome. A
special session highlighting achievements of the Surface Heat Balance of
the Arctic (SHEBA) Experiment is planned.

DEADLINE FOR ABSTRACTS: 14 December 2002

Authors of accepted presentations will be notified via e-mail by
17 January 2003. Instructions for formatting extended abstracts for
the preprint volume will be posted on the AMS web site. Camera-ready
manuscripts, including photos and diagrams, must be submitted by
28 February 2003 to AMS Headquarters. Registrants will receive a
preprint volume at the conference.
