Postdoctoral Snowmelt Researcher

Snow and Vegetation Interactions: Processes and Modelling Applications
are invited for a NERC-funded PDRA post for 36 months to improve
understanding of snowmelt processes in vegetation. As part of a
multinational team, the PDRA will help plan and participate in two
winter/spring field campaigns at a Yukon mountain site, collate and
analyse field data, develop algorithms, model snow surface processes in
an object-oriented C++ package, evaluate algorithms and models, suggest
improvements to land surface schemes, participate in preparation of
papers and make presentations to conferences.
Applicants should have a recent PhD in climate/hydrology modelling,
micrometeorology or snow hydrology. Essential qualities for this
position are familiarity with object-oriented programming and numerical
methods, good physical fitness and health, self-motivation, willingness
to spend time in remote locations, excellent written and verbal skills
in scientific English. Familiarity with climate or hydrological
measurement and modelling is an advantage. Salary will be at the NERC
RA1A Spine Point 6.
