Workshop Announcement: Development of Human Dimensions/Biocomplexity
Proposals for Arctic Research
Submit requests to participate in the Human Dimensions/Biocomplexity
workshop to the HARC Science Management Office at ARCUS:

The deadline for requests to participate in the workshop is Friday,
August 30, 2002.
The Science Management Office of NSF's Human Dimensions of the Arctic
System (HARC) initiative is planning a workshop this fall to develop
proposals for research under HARC and/or NSF's Biocomplexity program.
We seek teams of researchers interested in preparing such proposals.
The workshop will include time for each team to develop its ideas, and
for all teams to discuss the challenges and opportunities of human
dimensions research.

your research ideas are appropriate for this program.Send a "request to participate" to Dan Ferguson at the HARC SMO
(dan [at] arcus.org) by August 30, 2002. You must include the following
information with your request:
A. A one-page summary of the potential research project, explaining what
you would like to do, where, which disciplines are involved, and why it
is appropriate for HARC and/or Biocomplexity.
B. A list of up to six persons (including yourself) whom you would like
to take part in the workshop as part of your project idea development.
C. 1-2 page biographical sketches for each person (NB: This request to
participate in the workshop is intended as a starting point, and not a
constraint on the final proposal or research team.)
The HARC SMO will review the requests and issue invitations accordingly.
Successful teams will demonstrate that (a) their research ideas clearly
match the scope of HARC and/or Biocomplexity, and (b) they are well
qualified to undertake interdisciplinary research. Applications by
individuals (rather than teams) will not be considered. We anticipate
supporting 30-40 TOTAL participants for the workshop.
Please note that participation in the workshop does not imply that NSF
will fund any proposals that are developed. All proposals must go
through the usual NSF submission process. It is strongly advised the
prospective proposers consult with NSF Program Officers about the
potential project.
