A meeting of the Editorial Board for the International Bathymetric Chart
of the Arctic Ocean (IBCAO) is scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday,
October 30-31, at the Hawaii Mapping Research Group (HMRG) of the
University of Hawaii, Honolulu. This meeting is open to all who have an
interest in Arctic bathymetric mapping, although space restrictions may
impose some limits on attendance.
Details and a pre-registration form are available on the HMRG website
at: http://imina.soest.hawaii.edu/HMRG/
Discussion will focus on several topics, such as: recent improvements
and prospects for future enhancements to IBCAO; the integration of SCAMP
sidescan observations that were collected during SCICEX cruises; GIS
methodologies for the manipulation and visualization of bathymetric
data; and a proposed intercomparison with a new Arctic map that is
scheduled for publication this year by the Russian Federation Navy.
A supplementary discussion is slated for the following day (Friday,
November 1) on prospects for launching IBCSO (the International
Bathymetric Chart of the Southern Ocean), with the objective of
developing a bathymetric data base and a map of the oceanic area that
surrounds Antarctica. This initiative would be loosely modelled on
IBCAO, and would apply similar methodologies to the assembly and
treatment of available observations.
If you decide to participate in one or both of the above events, we'd
appreciate if you signalled your intention by completing the
pre-registration form at an early date.
Best wishes,
Ron Macnab
