A number of places are available in a workshop on "Cold Adaptations of
Aquatic Microorganisms", to be held from May 11th-14th in Bremen
(Germany), under the sponsorship of sponsorship of FEMS and the
Max-Planck Institute for Marine Microbiology.
The goal of the workshop is to stimulate thinking and discussion from a
variety of perspectives about cold-adapted microbes: their distribution,
genetics, biochemical adaptations, physiology, activities, and effects on
major element cycles. During the workshop, participants should share their
ideas about the ways and means by which these organisms operate, and how we
might experimentally and conceptually investigate their activities,
distributions, and nature. We hope that the workshop will help crystallize
ideas about specific areas of inquiry that might benefit from new attention
and focus. The workshop should include contributions from a variety of
perspectives: biochemical, microbiological, molecular biological, and
biogeochemical, covering sub-cellular to global-scale questions.
Further information and the workshop program are available under the heading
of "Seminars and Workshops" at: http://www.mpi-bremen.de
