The International Symposium "Problems of Adaptation of Human to
Ecological and Social Conditions of the North" will be held in
Syktyvkar, Russia, on 1 - 3 June 2004. This event is being organized by
the Institute of Physiology, Ural Division, Russian Academy of Sciences.
Syktyvkar is the capital of the Komi Republic which is the largest
province in the European part of Russia.
SYMPOSIUM SPECIFICS
The symposium will be of interest to those specializing in the problems
of human health in the Arctic and certain aspects of Human Ecological
Physiology. Physiologists and physicians working in Circumpolar areas
are especially invited to discuss the current problems of Arctic
inhabitants. The symposium will include lectures, oral presentations,
and posters. The working languages are Russian and English.
The main topics include:
- Human health in the Circumpolar area
- Social and psychophysiology aspects of human adaptation in the
Circumpolar area
- Children and age Physiology in the North
- Cardio-respiratory system functioning in the North
- Reproductive function problems
- Human metabolism in the Arctic
- Occupational health in the oil and gas, forest, and mining industries
in the North
- Key medical problems of the indigenous peoples in the North
- Labor Physiology in Arctic areas
ABSTRACT INFORMATION
The abstracts will be published before the official opening of the
symposium.
Abstracts should contain the following information:
(1) Title
(2) Name of the author(s). Also include the author's affiliation,
address, telephone, fax, and e-mail
(3) Body of the abstract (only 2 page please)

REGISTRATION
The registration fee is 200 USD. This includes includes a reception, an
abstract book, lunch and dinner during the symposium, social events,
entertainment, and a city tour.
