Ocean Observation Coordinating Scientist

The Alaska SeaLife Center, a non-profit organization dedicated to marine
research, rehabilitation, conservation, and public education is seeking
applications for the position of Ocean Observation Coordinating
Scientist.
This position is responsible for developing and managing the Ocean
Observing Program of the Research Department at the Alaska SeaLife
Center.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Defining the vision for an ocean observing program and setting
research priorities in conjunction with the Science Director and
Scientific Advisory Committee.
- Developing and managing the ocean observing program in conjunction
with the Science Director and Assistant Director of Research Operations.
- Coordinating with other Alaska SeaLife Center, University of Alaska
(Fairbanks), and industry scientists and resource managers to integrate
ongoing research with other ocean observing opportunities.
- Coordinating with the Alaska Ocean Observing System (AOOS) including
AOOS Administration, University of Alaska AOOS participants and those
associated with the Prince William Sound AOOS pilot project, and other
AOOS-related entities.
- Maintaining an active, externally funded research program that focuses
on oceanographic and related observing activities, and integrating
research with other research programs and priorities at the Alaska
Sealife Center.
- Coordinating and preparing annual operating budgets, programs, and
plans for special projects.
- Coordinating and preparing grant proposals, as well as ensuring the
production of timely reports to granting agencies and other interested
parties within set guidelines.
- Representing the ASLC's Ocean Observing Program to private, local,
state, or federal agencies.
- Fostering good relations with visitors, volunteers, community leaders,
contractors, and fellow staff members by promoting positive attitudes,
good will, cooperation, and providing high standards of service.
- Supervising personnel associated with the ASLC's Ocean Observing
Program.
Requirements include a Ph.D. in physical, biological, or fisheries
oceanography and five years professional experience including conducting
field research, managing research programs, obtaining grant awards, and
publishing manuscripts.
This is a full-time position. The SeaLife Center offers a competitive
