The Norwegian Institute for Air Research (NILU) at the Polar
Environmental Centre in Tromso, Norway is accepting applications for a
two-year postdoctoral position in analytical environmental chemistry on
the IPY project "Contaminants in Polar Areas" (COPOL). With
participation of biologists, ecotoxicologists, and environmental
chemists, this cross-disciplinary project seeks to predict what will
happen with selected persistent organic pollutants (POPs) and mercury in
arctic marine ecosystems under the influence of climate change.
The primary responsibility of the successful candidate will be
analytical chemistry work, including daily quality assurance and quality
control activities within COPOL. The successful candidate will also
supervise in part the laboratory work of COPOL postgraduate students, and
must be able to take initiative and work well within a group. The
position is based at NILU's laboratory in Tromso, but some work may have
to be done at Kjeller, Norway.
Applicants should have a solid background in analytical environmental
chemistry, particularly POPs. Experience with analysis of mercury will
be an asset. Applicants must be able to work in a cross-disciplinary
environment, particularly with postgraduate students with a background
in biology. The preferred starting date for the position is September
2007 or as soon as possible thereafter.
