The Commission on Professionals in Science and Technology (CPST) is
hosting the conference "Can We Compete? Trends in America's Scientific
and Technical Workforce" on 1-2 November 2007 in Washington, DC.
Funded by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, this national conference will
bring together policymakers, higher education administrators, corporate
hiring mangers, non-profit and business executives, workforce analysts,
and others to address major issues impacting America's scientific and
technical workforce. Plenaries and panel presentations featuring experts
on science and engineering data, policy, and practice will focus on
innovation and the scientific, technological, engineering, and
mathematical (STEM) workforce, scientific workforce trends, skills and
the global market, and cross-national supply and demand.
The conference will draw in part on data derived from CPST's on-going
STEM Workforce Data Project, which identifies and distributes reliable
statistics on STEM workers in the United States. The project draws on
the full range of statistical resources offered by U.S. federal
agencies, as well as other private sources of information, to issue
reports and data in both print and electronic formats. To view the
latest project reports and white papers, please go to:
