Papers are invited for Session PP17: "Low to High Latitude North Pacific
Climate During the Holocene" being convened at the American Geophysical
Union (AGU) Fall Meeting on 10-14 December 2007 in San Francisco,
California.
Session Description:
Establishing timing and linkages during the Holocene between low and
high latitude Pacific climate dynamics addresses a major challenge in
paleoclimatology regarding synchroneity and global extent of
paleoclimatic events. On a global scale, models predict sensitivity of
North American climate to atmosphere-ocean dynamics in the North Pacific
associated with interrelated modes of climate variability that include
the Pacific Decadal Oscillation, the Pacific-North American Pattern, El
Nino/Southern Oscillation, and the Arctic Oscillation. Within the Gulf
of Alaska region, a constrained geographic area at the end of the north
Pacific storm track, these interlinking climate systems respond to
large-scale climate forcing and subsequently impact the hydrologic cycle
and the marine and terrestrial environments in northwest North America.
This session will explore low and high latitude North Pacific climate
variability during the Holocene and how paleoclimate events have
impacted regional ocean/atmosphere processes, landscape change, and
cryospheric systems. Scientists who utilize paleoclimate archives
(marine and terrestrial), explore modern climate dynamics and spatial
patterns, and model North Pacific climate forcing and teleconnections
during the Holocene are encouraged to participate in this session.
