The North Pacific Research Board (NPRB) is issuing a special request for
micro-zooplankton proposals.
In June 2007 the NPRB and National Science Foundation (NSF) launched a
$35 million partnership to study ecosystem processes from physics to
fish to humans in the Bering Sea based on the Bering Sea Ecosystem Study
(BEST) and the Bering Sea Integrated Ecosystem Research Program (BSIERP)
(http://www.nprb.org/research/BSIERP/bsierp_intro.htm). During the first
Principal Investigator meeting in September 2007, summer
micro-zooplankton was identified as a gap in the scientific program
funded to date.
The request for proposals is specifically intended to address this gap.
Proposals are requested to conduct process studies, specifically rate
measurement that will constrain the models, and examine community
composition of micro-zooplankton during summer in the Bering Sea.
Applicants are expected to become part of the integrated BEST/BSIERP
team and participate in the NSF summer cruises to conduct this work.
Study plans should include three field seasons (2008-2010).
Applicants must submit a research plan, budget summary, and budget
narrative using the templates available at:
http://www.nprb.org/research/2008_RFP.htm
Research plans should not exceed 10 pages and, for this special RFP, are
not required to include item C in the template above. The total funding
amount is not to exceed $300,000 USD. Proposals must be submitted by
4:00 p.m. Alaska Standard Time on Friday, 9 November 2007, to:
