The Canadian Network for the Detection of Atmospheric Change (CANDAC) is
holding a contest for students and teachers across Canada. Winners will
participate in the Northern Experience Program - an 11-day educational
expedition to Resolute and Eureka, Nunavut in April 2009. There are
openings for 15 students and 6 teachers.
CANDAC is an organization of university researchers and government
scientists studying how the atmosphere over Canada is changing. The
effort is currently focused on the measurement programs in place at the
Polar Environment Atmospheric Research Laboratory (PEARL) located at
Eureka, Nunavut (80N, 86W) on Ellesmere Island, 1100 km from the North
Pole.
The Northern Experience Program is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for
students in grades 11 and 12 to experience Canada's High Arctic region.
Participants will be escorted by CANDAC members to the High Arctic,
where they will spend 11 days learning about the culture, history, and
scientific significance of the region with a focus on the impacts of
climate change.
All of the positions in the Northern Experience Program will be
fully-funded, thanks to support provided by the Government of Canada
International Polar Year Program.
Important Information:
- Any student enrolled in a Canadian high school at the grade 11 or 12
level at the time of the expedition is eligible to enter the contest.
This includes first-year CEGEP students in Quebec and home-schooled
