An international team of scientists seeks input from early career
researchers working in the polar regions to help understand both the
benefits and challenges of interdisciplinary research (IDR). The team is
investigating the prevalence of IDR in the research community, as well
as the major challenges young researchers face in pursuing
interdisciplinary projects and careers. To achieve this, your
experiences and input are needed.
The culmination of the International Polar Year (IPY), in an age of
increasingly variable climate, has highlighted the complexity of the
polar landscape. The success of IPY efforts in understanding the
interconnectedness of the polar systems to address urgent societal needs
requires that scientists and social scientists reach across traditional
disciplinary boundaries. Yet, navigating across these boundaries is
often difficult and fraught with obstacles to pursuing a successful
research career.
