NASA Earth System Science at 20:
Accomplishments, Plans, and Challenges

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) will hold a
three-day symposium of researchers, managers, policy makers, media, and
the public to examine the 20-year history of the NASA Earth System
Science Program and its future. The symposium will be held 22-24 June
2009, at the National Academy of Sciences Building in Washington, DC.

The forum will focus on findings and new approaches that will continue
interdisciplinary collaborations in Earth system science. The symposium
will include:
- An open forum to examine the history of the NASA Earth System Science
Program and its future;
- An open science meeting to discuss scientific findings and advances
from the Earth Observing System (EOS) and other NASA or NASA-partnered
Earth science missions; and
- Press briefings with press materials and interviews.

The symposium will be divided into three primary sessions:
1. Overview: The Past and Present of NASA's Earth System Science,
2. Landmark Findings in Disciplines, Earth System Science, or Climate, and
3. Earth Science in the Next 20 Years: Challenges / Vision for Earth
System Science or Climate.
