Organizers of Session H16, "Hydroclimatology of Large Northern
Watersheds: From Surface Observation, Remote Sensing, to Modeling,"
announce a call for abstracts. The session will be convened at the
American Geophysical Union (AGU) fall Meeting, 14-18 December 2009, in
San Francisco, California.

Northern rivers are important to the global climate system, because they
transport large amounts of freshwater and sediment into the oceans.
Knowledge of the basic aspects of northern basin hydroclimatology (e.g.,
seasonal cycles and space-time variability of precipitation, snow
cover, soil moisture, evapotranspiration, and their links with
streamflow) has improved over the last several years through national
and international research projects.

This session reviews and synthesizes the current understandings of major
hydro-climatic features of the large northern rivers. The focus is to
define the fundamental characteristics of large-scale hydroclimatology
through analyses of long-term in-situ observations, remote sensing, and
numerical model outputs, and examination of their variations and changes
over space and time. This session invites review presentations by
research groups and operational agencies to cover the major northern
rivers. Organizers also welcome contributions on a wide range of
relevant topics dealing with cold region climate and hydrology over the
arctic regions.

The abstract submission deadline for this and all other sessions is
Thursday, 3 September 2009, at 11:59 pm Eastern Daylight Time. To submit
an abstract, you must enter the first author's current AGU member ID and
password at: http://agu-fm09.abstractcentral.com/.
