Organizers of Session A09, "High Latitude Climate Feedbacks," announce a
call for abstracts. The session will be convened at the American
Geophysical Union (AGU) Fall Meeting, 14-18 December 2009, in San
Francisco, California.
High latitude climate feedbacks exert a substantial influence on the
mean climate state and appear to be contributing to recent rapid arctic
environmental change. Many high-latitude feedbacks involve complex
interactions between multiple components of the climate system, with
seasonality often playing an important role. This session solicits
presentations that enhance physical understanding of high-latitude
feedbacks operating in past, present, or future climates.
Session organizers invite contributions that use theory, models of
varying degrees of complexity, and observations to explore relevant
atmosphere, ice, and ocean processes. For example, surface albedo
feedbacks can arise from altered ice, snow, aerosol, or vegetation
distributions. Carbon feedbacks often involve permafrost or ocean
uptake/release. Atmospheric feedbacks can result from modified cloud
cover, aerosol burdens, surface turbulent fluxes, or advection from
lower latitudes. Contributions that emphasize testing the plausibility
and climatic relevance of specific feedback mechanisms are particularly
encouraged.
The abstract submission deadline for this and all other sessions is
Thursday, 3 September 2009, at 11:59 pm Eastern Daylight Time. To submit
