- Travel Grants Available - Permafrost Young Researchers Network
U.S. Permafrost Association
The U.S. Permafrost Association (USPA) is providing five $500 travel
grants for Permafrost Young Researchers Network (PYRN) members to attend
the American Geophysical Union (AGU) Fall Meeting. The meeting will be
convened 14-18 December 2009 in San Francisco, California.
Students and post-graduate researchers within six years of their
terminal degree, who will be presenting permafrost-related research at
the meeting, are eligible to apply. The applicant must be both the first
and presenting author. The application, which is due Thursday, 15
October 2009 at midnight Alaska Daylight Time, can be found in the
'Upcoming Meetings' box at the USPA website: www.uspermafrost.org.

- 2009 Nye Lecture
Dr. Larry Hinzman, International Arctic Research Center
Dr. Larry Hinzman, Director of the International Arctic Research Center
(IARC) at the University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF), has been selected to
present the Nye Lecture at the 2009 American Geophysical Union (AGU)
Fall Meeting in San Francisco, California. He has been recognized for
his extensive knowledge of interdisciplinary processes that have created
a more integrated understanding of climate change impacts on circumpolar
processes, particularly with regard to permafrost and hydrology.
