The National Science Foundation (NSF) is planning a four-day workshop to
develop a Science and Implementation Plan on Land-Ice Contributions to
Future Sea Level. The workshop will be convened 11-14 July 2010 in
Sterling, Virginia.
The Science and Implementation Plan will:
- Frame tractable science questions and prioritize measurement and
research strategies intended to guide future sponsored research by
NSF and other possible agencies focused on the most direct path to
address this issue; and
- Provide actionable information for decision makers.
Organizers invite members of the research community who are interested
in participating in the workshop to submit a one-page statement of
interest explaining their background and how it fits within the context
of the workshop goals. For the workshop to be successful, the
participating scientists must be able to recognize and acknowledge the
relevant contributions of other communities to the specific goal of
projecting future sea-level rise.
Balances in gender, race, and stage of career will also be considered in
the selection process, as will the potential to provide new
perspectives. To include the youngest perspectives, organizers encourage
graduate students and post-docs to submit documentation to be considered
for one of the six spots reserved for them to participate in the
workshop. All travel costs will be covered for U.S. participants.
Please submit your statement of interest and a two-page NSF-style
curriculum vitae to:
