Multiple Session Announcements and Calls for Abstracts

CL2.1 - Climate of the Polar Regions
CR4.30 - High-Elevation & High-Latitude Permafrost (HELP):
Measuring, Modeling and Remote Sensing
- CL2.1 - Climate of the Polar Regions
Organizers of Session CL2.1, "Climate of the Polar Regions," announce a
call for abstracts. This session will be convened at the EGU (European
Geosciences Union) General Assembly 2011, scheduled for 3-8 April 2011
in Vienna, Austria.
This session provides a forum for discussion of the latest results on
ways in which the polar climate is changing under the stress of
increasing greenhouse gas concentrations, and on model simulations of
future change. Papers are welcome on processes in the atmosphere, sea
ice cover, ocean, and land (including ice sheets) in both the arctic and
Antarctic regions. Of particular relevance are results from the EU field
programs DAMOCLES and ASOP, which seek to understand changes in the
Arctic Ocean and its ice cover, and its interaction with the adjacent
subarctic oceans. Decadal simulations utilizing data from these and
earlier field programs (VEINS, ESOP) are of particular interest.
In the arctic atmosphere, methane levels have been sharply increasing
since 2007, leading to possible accelerated climate warming. This
warming could release more methane from the arctic permafrost and
tundra, and the gas hydrate deposits in the sea and lakes. So far the
newly active sources are unknown. Papers are welcome that will
contribute to the understanding of these processes, i.e. sources, sinks,
feedback mechanisms and their temporal variations.
Abstract submission deadline: Monday, 10 January 2011.

- CR4.30 - High-Elevation & High-Latitude Permafrost (HELP):
Measuring, Modeling, and Remote Sensing
Organizers of Session CR4.30, "High-Elevation & High-Latitude Permafrost
(HELP): Measuring, Modeling, and Remote Sensing," announce a call for
abstracts. This session will be convened at the EGU (European
Geosciences Union) General Assembly 2011, scheduled for 3-8 April 2011
in Vienna, Austria.
The session calls for presentations of the latest discoveries in the
climate-driven changes of permafrost. Discoveries linking permafrost
changes with feedbacks and sensitivity to ecosystem, energy, and water
cycle changes; and model-base projections of the future of permafrost
and impacts on society are welcome. Organizers also welcome those
presentations of airborne-, ground- and space-based integrative
multi-system geodetic strategies to address current gaps in both local
and global monitoring programs of permafrost change.
Abstract submission deadline: Monday, 10 January 2011.
