The Norwegian Polar Institute (NPI) seeks a postdoctoral candidate to
work on two projects, entitled "Advancing Modeling and Observing Solar
Radiation of Arctic Sea-Ice" (AMORA) and "CryoSat Sea Ice Validation and
Process Studies in the European Arctic." The position will be based in
Tromso, Norway with fieldwork in the Arctic.
As part of the AMORA project, the successful applicant will study sea
ice physics related to atmosphere-ice-ocean interaction based on field
observations, numerical simulations, and buoy data. Research on sea-ice
thermodynamics and sea-ice energy balance in the Arctic will be the main
topic, focusing on physical processes and radiation transfer in snow and
sea ice. Additionally, the candidate would contribute to the CryoSat
project, which involves calibration and validation of satellite radar
altimetry data for revealing sea ice thickness.
Applicants must have a PhD (or be near completion) with a background in
physics, geophysics, meteorology, or oceanography. Knowledge of
processing of field data is required, as the candidate will work with
heterogeneous data sets, as is knowledge of field instrumentation and
equipment especially related to physical properties of snow and ice.
Experience in fieldwork will be important, and general knowledge on the
physical properties of snow and sea ice is an asset.

Asiaq, Greenland Survey seeks candidates for a research assistant
position that will be based in Nuuk, Greenland.
The successful applicant will work on the GeoBasis and ClimateBasis
programs under the Greenland Ecosystem Monitoring Network
(http://www.g-e-m.dk). The primary foci of these programs are
snow-vegetation-soil interactions, gas exchange between the soil and
vegetation and atmosphere, and measurements of climatological and
hydrological parameters. The position will collect data in the field,
maintain and repair equipment and installations, perform quality
assessment of data and pre-processing before input to database, and
report results in annual reports. The fieldwork will entail three to
four days per week (and some nights) in the field during the period from
April to October, and one or two days monthly during the winter.
Asiaq seeks a physical geographer, physicist, engineer, technician, or
equivalent with experience in ecosystem climatology and hydrology,
preferably in arctic conditions. The ideal candidate has extensive
experience with data collection in the field and management and/or
maintenance of relevant scientific equipment. Experience with modeling,
remote sensing, and GIS is an advantage but not a requirement. Solid
English communication skills are mandatory.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) Office of Subsistence
Management seeks to fill multiple wildlife biologist positions. The
positions will be based in Anchorage, Alaska.
Successful candidates will:
- Provide technical compilations, evaluations, and analyses of
existing wildlife information;
- Analyze proposed changes to harvest methods and means, limits, or
seasons for potential effects to wildlife populations and
consumptive uses;
- Monitor the status of wildlife populations that support
subsistence uses and make recommendations for actions that are
necessary to insure conservation of those species in their natural
diversity; and
- Monitor changes in state and federal regulations and recommend
changes to ensure compatibility.
In order to be rated as qualified for this position, candidates must
have at least a Bachelor's degree in a biological science that included,
at minimum, 12 semester hours in zoology; nine semester hours in such
wildlife courses as mammalogy, ornithology, animal ecology, or wildlife
management; and nine semester hours in botany.
