The Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at City College of New
York is seeking applications for a tenure-track professor position in
atmospheric science, hydrology, and/or climate science to begin in
August, 2017.

Applicants across a broad range of specialized fields will be
considered, including atmospheric chemistry, air/water pollution,
hydroclimate, fluid mechanics, and hydrology/hydrogeology. Of particular
interest is the ability to utilize an interdisciplinary approach,
including remote sensing observations, process-based modeling, and/or
field work.
The successful candidate is expected to establish a vigorous externally
funded research program that expands the scope of our departmental
expertise while complementing and integrating with existing strengths.
The candidate should be capable of developing new courses and teaching
existing offerings in atmospheric chemistry, hydrology, and/or
Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
Requirements for the position include a PhD or equivalent in a relevant
field, the ability to teach, demonstrated scholarship or achievement,
and ability to cooperate with others.

This position will analyze science project logistical needs, assist in
the development of project logistical support, conduct project planning
meetings, manage or assist in support execution, and modify resource
requirements and schedules through the evolution of a project.

Leidos is a platform-independent provider of scientific, engineering, and
systems integration services to serve the international civil, defense
and intelligence, and health markets.
The successful candidate will work in coordination with the National
Science Foundation (NSF), science and technical project teams, the
Science and Technology Project Services (S&TPS) Implementation Group,
and other Antarctic Support Contract (ASC) functional areas to
understand project goals, define operational requirements, and minimize
risk for U.S. Antarctic Program (USAP) science and technical events.
Deployment to Antarctica may be required for this position. The
individual in the position must successfully complete the physical and
dental examinations as required by the NSF for deploying to Antarctica.
Failure to meet these requirements may result in withdrawal of
employment offer or other employment action.
Basic requirements include:
- A BA or BS degree and at least five years of relevant experience,
- Familiarity with the conduct of field science and with the science
questions addressed with field work, - Prior experience planning and/or executing science support logistics
in remote environments, - The ability to review scientific proposals for operational
requirements and feasibility, - Strong organizational and communications skills,
- Ability to adapt to changing schedules and priorities,
- Strong team player willing to adapt to change, and
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office.
Additional desired skills include field experience or science training,
a science degree in a field relevant to USAP research or prior
planning/logistical support experience related to USAP research;
experience in Antarctic or remote location logistics and science
support, project management and/or field data collection; familiarity
with USAP field, station, and ship operations; a demonstrated ability to
work productively with the science community and other functional
groups; and prior USAP or other polar field support experience is
strongly preferred.
