The University of Oulu invites applications for a full professorship
position in Arctic research combined with the post of Vice President of
Research of the University of the Arctic. This is a full time position
based in Oulu, Finland.

The professorship as such is a new one at the university, the UArctic
Vice President of Research position has been at the University since
2014. The Professor of Arctic Research will have half of the position at
one of the Universitys faculties (at the most relevant one depending on
his/her expertise) and the other half at the Thule Institute, where
he/she will be leading the UArctic Thematic Networks and the Research
Liaison offices.

The required qualifications for the post of professor include a doctoral
degree, high quality scientific or artistic competence, experience in
supervising scientific research, the ability to give high quality
education based on research and to supervise final theses, as well as
evidence of international collaboration in his or her field of research
and engagement in research policy.

When assessing the applicants merits, issues taken into consideration
include scientific publications and other research results with
scientific value, including the doctoral theses the applicant has
supervised. In addition to this, the applicants activity in the
international scientific community, memberships in international boards
and committees, and success in acquiring supplementary funding will be
taken account.

The applicants scientific merits and a comprehensive understanding of
the research environment in the major regions of the Arctic, excellent
communication and science diplomacy skills, ability to travel
internationally and involvement in the Arctic organizations including
the University of the Arctic and International Arctic Science Committee
is particularly meritorious.

Fluency in the English language is required.

  1. PhD Student Position Available

The Dynamical Meteorology Lab (LMD) announces an opening for a PhD
student to study "Antarctic precipitation: Microwave remote sensing and
parameterization in a global climate model" for a fixed term of 3 years.
The position is located in Paris, France.

The PhD student will join an ongoing project on Antarctic precipitation
funded by the French national research agency. The successful candidate
should hold a Master of Science degree in physics, meteorology,
geophysics, or comparable science. Experience in scientific programming
and modeling are expected.

This PhD project will allow the successful candidate to develop a wide
variety of skills from remote sensing to climate model development. It
requires a robust knowledge of atmospheric physics, and an experience in
satellite retrievals and climate modeling, though not required, would be
beneficial.

The North Pacific Research Board (NPRB) is seeking applicants for the
position of Executive Director. The position is a regular, full time
position equivalent to the GS-15 level in federal service. The position
is based in Anchorage, Alaska.

The Executive Director is a senior-level position, and applicants should
have at least 10-years of experience in research and/or organizational
management with a minimum 5 years of program-level supervisory
experience. Under the direction of the board, this position provides
organizational leadership while maintaining and enhancing the
organizations reputation for excellence in marine research.
