The Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences (DEES) at Columbia
University seeks applications for a faculty position in cryosphere
science. Appointment can be at any rank from tenure-track assistant
professor to tenured full professor, though there is a preference for
junior applicants. The position will be based at the Morningside Heights
Campus in New York City, New York.
Columbia welcomes applications from outstanding scientists who study
aspects of the cryosphere that will broaden their research and teaching
portfolio. Research interests include, but are not limited to: glacier
or ice sheet dynamics, cryosphere response to climate change, ice-ocean
interaction, climate-ice sheet modeling and interaction with the solid
Earth, cryosphere biology and biogeochemistry, and/or subglacial
hydrologic systems. The successful applicant is expected to demonstrate
or develop collaborative, interdisciplinary research programs addressing
problems of global significance, and demonstrate strong teaching
abilities at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Analytical Chemistry
Fort Garry, Manitoba, Canada
The Centre for Earth Observation Science (CEOS) at the University of
Manitoba's Faculty of Environment, Earth, and Resources is seeking a
research associate to further their research in the area of biomarkers,
petroleum hydrocarbons, and analytical chemistry. The position will be
based Fort Garry, just outside of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.
The successful applicant will join a team of researchers who undertake
biomarker and contaminants research in Arctic marine, estuarine, and
freshwater ecosystems (e.g. lignin phenols, petroleum hydrocarbons,
legacy and current use pesticides). The successful applicant must have a
very strong background in analytical chemistry particularly in the areas
of mass spectrometry and gas/liquid chromatography. The expectation will
be for the successful candidate to conduct research in the area of
method development and he/she will also be responsible for the
day-to-day operation and maintenance of lab instrumentation and training
of HQP. The candidate may have the opportunity to participate in
occasional field projects in remote locations, if desired.
Candidates must have a Master's degree in a natural science and
extensive experience in the area of analytical method development and
mass spectrometric analysis of organic compounds.

The Faculty of Biosciences, Fisheries and Economics in Department of
Arctic and Marine Biology at the University of Tromso seeks a PhD
Student in Arctic marine ecology. This four-year, full-time position
will be based in Tromso, Norway.
This opportunity is part of the Arctic Marine System Ecology research
group. The applicant is expected to develop a PhD project that relates
to Arctic benthic ecology, food webs, and central Arctic basin
communities with links to relevant environmental conditions. A master's
degree in biology, marine biology, or a related science is required.
