The Department of Earth and Environment at Boston University is
undertaking a major expansion in the field of climate change and invites
applications for two tenure-track Assistant Professor positions
beginning July 2015. The position will be based in Boston, Massachusetts.

The program seeks applicants trained in a wide range of specializations
including climate dynamics, recent climate history, hydroclimatology,
and climate impacts and adaptations. Applicants with interests in
broader questions of the impacts of climate change on society (water
resources, food, health, energy, land use), as well as those who
complement existing strengths in remote sensing, coastal processes, and
landscape evolution are also invited.

The successful applicant will be expected to supervise graduate research
in PhD programs, teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and
maintain an externally funded research program. Applicants whose
research complements strengths in the Department and around the

  1. University of Alaska Fairbanks seeks M.S. or PhD Student
    Marine Microbial Ecology and Evolution

A graduate student assistantship (M.S. or PhD) is available at the
University of Alaska Fairbanks for a student to develop a thesis project
investigating the diversity, distribution, and evolution of polar marine
microorganisms. The position will be based in Fairbanks, Alaska.

This is an interdisciplinary project and the student will engage with a
team of researchers at UAF and other institutions on broader questions
of Arctic ecosystem functioning via interactions with oceanographic
conditions and higher trophic levels. Field work for the project is
based primarily in the Chukchi Sea, with the potential for additional
field work conducted on the R/V Sikuliaq, a brand new 261-ft ice-capable
research vessel operated by UAF (http://www.sikuliaq.alaska.edu/). As
part of the degree, the student will complete course work within the
Graduate Program in Marine Science and Limnology at UAF.

Competitive applicants will have a strong academic background in the
natural sciences, prior field or research experience, and an interest in
microbial ecology and evolution. Prior experience with bioinformatics or
computer programming is desirable. Members of traditionally
under-represented groups are especially encouraged to apply.

Polar Field Services seeks an experienced project manager for the
position of Greenland Inland Traverse Operations Manager.

The successful applicant will be responsible for all aspects of planning
and managing the Greenland Inland Traverse (GrIT) and other ice cap
based mobile science platforms throughout Greenland. The GrlT Manager is
responsible for executing the project(s) in a safe and efficient manner
with a vision of continuous improvement. The Operations Manager promotes
the benefits of traversing and shapes the long range vision for the
GrIT, which is a well-established project. This position is responsible
for accurate project controls and required reporting.

This position will require deployment to Thule, Greenland several times
per year while the remaining time involves working at PFS HQ offices in
Littleton, Colorado. When on travel, employees will sleep in hotels,
tents, dorms or other types of community housing. Working temperatures
may exceed -40F and food may come from restaurants, self-made or from a
cook. Showers, laundry and other typical amenities may be restricted or
not available. Transport may include but not limited to aircraft, trucks
and snow machines.

  1. SCAR seeks Executive Officer
    Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research

The Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research (SCAR) seeks a full time
Executive Officer to assist in the running of the SCAR Secretariat. The
position will be based in Cambridge, United Kingdom.

The primary tasks of the Executive Officer are managing the SCAR
finances (50%); working with SCAR bodies to achieve appropriate
objectives and goals (20%); managing external projects and grants,
including the Muse Prize (20%); and coordinating SCAR's capacity
building, education, and training activities (10%).

Candidates should preferably have a qualification in a scientific
discipline relevant to Antarctic or polar research, plus experience in
international scientific coordination, excellent communication and
organizational skills, and complete proficiency in English. Experience
of the workings of a small to medium sized UK charity would be an
advantage. Some overseas travel will be required.
