The Division of history of science, technology, and environment at KTH -
Royal Institute of Technology seeks candidates for a postdoctoral
position within a research program entitled "New Governance for
Sustainable Development in the European Arctic." The position is
full-time, starting 1 November 2014, or according to agreement. It is
based in Stockholm, Sweden.

The research program is funded by Mistra, which is the Swedish
Foundation for Strategic Environmental Research. The program goal is to
develop a nuanced understanding of local and subnational governance
challenges in the European Arctic with the aim to increase the capacity
of local and regional decision makers to make informed decisions related
to sustainable development.

The program focuses on seven economic and governance sectors: mining,
forestry, oil and gas, fisheries, tourism, reindeer husbandry, and
municipal planning. A central research task is to investigate how laws
and regulations for resource exploitation have been constructed and
changed over time and how, as well as why, Arctic communities have
responded to those changes.

The main research task of the successful candidate will be to
investigate how and why laws and regulations for forestry have been
constructed and changed over time with focus on northern Sweden, Norway,
and Finland. Therefore language skills in Swedish, Norwegian, and
Finnish are required.

Applicants should have completed a PhD degree in a relevant field of
research within the last seven years. The position consists of 75 %
research and 25 % teaching duties.

The National Ecological Observatory Network (NEON) seeks applicants for
the position of Field Operations Assistant Manager. The position is
full-time and based in Fairbanks, Alaska.

The NEON Field Operations Assistant Manager is responsible for
supervision of personnel and activities coordinated from the assigned
field office.

Field office activities include preventative and corrective maintenance
of scientific instrumentation, field infrastructure and equipment,
office and laboratory equipment; field observations; and specimen
collection, handling, preparation and shipment according to NEON
scientific protocols.

Personnel management activities includes selecting, training,
scheduling, and performance management for five regular full-time field
technicians and 20-30 seasonal field technicians according to NEON, Inc.
Policies and Procedures under the supervision of the Field Operations
Manager.

This position supports sites in the Taiga and Tundra Domains. Taiga
Domain candidate sites are located at the Caribou-Poker Creeks Research
Watershed near Chatanika, Alaska; south of Delta Junction, Alaska; and
near Healy, Alaska. Tundra Domain candidates sites are located at Toolik
Field Station south of Prudhoe Bay and at Barrow Environmental
Observatory. The Taiga and Tundra domains include most of Alaska.
