Polar Educators International (PEI) announces a call for applications to
serve on the PEI Council. The one-year council term begins 1 March 2014.
The Council, elected annually, assumes a volunteer leadership role
within PEI. The council shapes goals, sets objectives, and makes
decisions about the functions of PEI. Along with a Secretariat (host),
they organize activities for polar educators around the world, shaping
the future of PEI and building its international presence. For
additional information on the duties and responsibilities of a council
member, please see the Council Charter, at:
http://www.polareducator.org/about/council/council-charter.
Any PEI member interested in being actively involved in the organization
can become a council member, and some applicants will be solicited by
the Steering Committee and advisory members, while others may be new to
PEI. There are organizational and individual membership slots, both of
which follow the same application procedure.
Applicants will be notified of a decision by 21 February, and the
council term begins 1 March 2014. To apply for a council position,
please provide:
- Current contact information
- Brief biography (around 200 words)
- Current picture of yourself (no hat or sunglasses/balaclavas)
- Name and email address of one reference
- Whether you are interested in sitting on the Executive Committee
- Expression of Interest Letter (around 500 words) explaining the
following why you are interested in PEI and sitting on the Council.
Include any ideas you have for PEI projects, a desire to become more
connected to the polar community, ways to improve PEI, and ideas to
strengthen and grow the international community of polar educators.
- Any major periods of anticipated extended absence, such as
fieldwork, long vacations, or intense exam periods.
- Your experiences (including previous PEI or other polar education
