The International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD)
Circumpolar Young Leaders Program (CYLP) announces a new distance
learning course entitled 'Live, Learn and Lead--Arctic Governance in the
Circumpolar North.' The course is available to people from the
circumpolar North who are between 19 and 30 years old. It requires 6-8
hours of facilitated online learning spread over two weeks, 27 March
2013 - 10 April 2013.
The Arctic's dynamic and uncertain future allows for various pathways of
arctic governance and arctic conditions to be imagined. Effective
governance in the North will require the involvement of a wide diversity
of stakeholders and an ability to be adaptive, accountable, and
sustainable. The course will cover the principles of good governance,
what they mean in the context of the changing Arctic, and how you can
get involved and make things better.
Applicants must be not younger than 19 and not older than 30 years of
age; be originally from or living in the Arctic (Northern Canada,
Russia, Greenland, Norway, Sweden, Finland, the United States, or
Iceland); have graduated from high school; have a strong interest in
circumpolar affairs and issues; have access to a computer with an
internet connection; and have strong oral and written communication
skills in English.
As a pilot course in IISD's Circumpolar Young Leaders Series, there will
be no registration fee. To apply, please complete the questionnaire at:
https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/arcticgovernance. After completion of the
questionnaire, you will be contacted by the course facilitator with
confirmation of your registration and details of next steps. The course
will be run with a maximum of 25 participants, accepted on a first-come,
first-serve basis.
